We began as a fully operational butchery, but our journey and the evolution of Boer and Butcher today originated from a deep passion for natural and healthy farming practices. It was fueled by our love for the countryside, its people, culture, and values.
Our story began in 2009 when we initiated operations in a traditional 'vleiskamer' (farm-style butchery) that had been constructed in the early 1916s on our livestock farm located in the Darling/Hopefield region of the Western Cape. Our aim was to share this passion with friends and families in the city who shared our understanding and appreciation for the value of traditional, natural rearing methods.
From our humble beginnings back in July 2009 on the farm, we have experienced organic growth, and we are now proud to offer our services through retail outlets in Cape Town. As we continue to provide you with homegrown produce directly from the farm, we can assure you of the best value that money can buy in and around the Cape.
Meat the Butcher will remain operational during the lockdown, prioritizing the safety of our staff during their commute to and from work. As a result, our operating hours will be from 09:00 to 15:00. We also offer delivery services; however, in case of high demand, there may be a waiting period until the following day. Payment for delivery can be made using either cash or card.

Our journey began in December 2013 when we proudly opened our very first retail store in Durbanville, Cape Town. In a transformative effort, we converted a compact 60m2 hair salon into our inaugural butchery. During those early days, our primary source of livestock was our family farm in Darling.
Today, we've established a carefully curated network of dedicated farmers who play a pivotal role in meeting our growing demand. We maintain a close-knit relationship with these farmers throughout the entire livestock production process. Our focus extends beyond just quality; it also encompasses consistency, which is why we target specific breeds of livestock for production.

The Black Forest Butchery was founded in 1984 by Winfried Lindinger, a native of Germany. Having completed a rigorous 3-year apprenticeship and subsequently obtaining his master's certificate, he amassed 14 years of valuable experience in the butcher trade in Germany. In 1981, Winfried embarked on his journey of entrepreneurship by opening his own butchery in Cape Town, South Africa.
In 1996, Winfried's son, Pierre, joined him in the family business. Pierre had diligently completed his own 3-year apprenticeship in Germany, emerging as a qualified German butcher.
