My kungfu training began in 1988 with Leslie Reed, a sifu from the South African chapter International Taijiquan and Shaolin Wushu Association. Leslie Reed sifu was my first teacher. I then opened my own school in 1989.
Thanks to our friendship with Derek Frearson, sifu, we were able to travel to China and train there. I had the opportunity to visit the Shaolin temple as well as Lee Kam Wing sifu, who is the inheritor the Seven Star Praying Mandatis style. Derek sifu has been my direct guide since the passing of Leslie sifu in March 2003.
Derek Sifu invited me to join the 9th generation of the 7 Star Praying Mantis Style.
Although the training is hard, I try to maintain a sense of humor in my classes. While tradition and discipline should always be respected, I believe that students should have fun while at school.
