Unisa is Africa's largest open-distance learning institution and the oldest standing dedicated distance education university. Nearly one-third (33%) of all South African students are enrolled in our institution.
The University of the Cape of Good Hope was founded in 1873. In 1946, it became the first university to offer distance education. Unisa has been the only university in South Africa that provided education to all students, regardless of race, color, or creed, for many years. Our rich history reflects this vibrant past, especially our impressive alumni database, which includes some who are at the highest levels of society around the globe.
